Sewing my own Bonding Pouch, Sleeping Pouch, Hammock, and Hut :)

Assalamualaikum! Kom ape kombet! Bet ape betmen! Men ape mentol!

It had been a loooong weekend for me. Not so long, dua hari je pon just like any other weekends, tapi kali ni, I'm so happy and tired as well. Tengok je la title atas tu! I finally managed to jahit all those stuff for them! Memang dari dulu lagi nak jahit sendiri, but then I didn't have the time and the equipment and stuff. But now I'm on my semester break, so apa lagi, menjahit lah! The thing is, bila jahit, kite puas hati sendiri. Biar lah kalau senget benget pon, yang penting buat sendiri. Don't get me wrong, I have no complaints at all pasal pouches yang dijual di kedai. Cuma saja nak design sendiri. Lagipon, bila buat sendiri, pilih kain sendiri, benang sendiri, zip sendiri, pouch tu jadi lah special! Dalam satu dunia, I'm the only one who has my pouch seperti yang ditunjukkan di gambar di bawah japgi (sabar ye).. Best kan bila takyah sama dengan orang lain? Anyway, ofcourse susah bila mula mula nak jahit. yang paling senang is sleeping pouch. The most challenging pouch for me is the Bonding Pouch! Yela, there's the zip, net, tali and stuff. Even my mom had to help me do it (Mak yang suruh mention kat blog) ehehe THANKS MAK! Dekat youtube ada tunjuk, tapi die tak letak net. Macamana la suggie dia nak bernafas? ahahaha omputeh.... omputeh...! 

Anyway, nak cari fleece bukan senang! I had to go to Jalan TAR for like one whole day untuk cari fleece yang sesuai. Separuh kedai, they call it kain Flannel. Ada yang tebal, ada yang nipis. So we just have to pandai pandai cari sendiri. I went to Kamdar and Alhamdulillah ada! The designs are very limited. Most designs that I saw are the ones yang dah already jual kat kedai, so I didn't buy those sebab nanti sama la dengan orang jual kat luar. So bla bla bla, here are some pics to sum it up!

Sugar Glider Mating

Okey. Saja bagi tajuk catchy sikit. Anyway, in this blog, I haven't even finished telling about Garlic, Glukos and Jazmin yet, and yet, jeng jeng jeng!

I just got back from somewhere and I took all five babies with me. Three of my little ones were in one pouch, and Glittle and Ginger were in the other. So I carry two pouches all the time. Balik hostel, I set up their cages and their food and stuff, and transfered the little ones in their cage, and after that, I transfered the Ibu and Ayah in their own cage. Nak keluarkan Glittle and Ginger biasanya senang je, cuma Glittle je la yang jarang nak keluar pouch. Anyway, because I was in a rush, saya ambil je mereka pakai tangan. Bila masukkan kat cage, their bodies were attached to each other. I was like, okeyyy. Glittle takot kot... sebab tu peluk Ginger kuat kuat! Then, laaaamaaaa sangat diorang macam tu. So then I realized that my two adult sugar gliders were mating! Adoi. Nak cerita pon malu. So I cepat cepat ambil camera, cepat cepat snap gambar. I was rushing to take those pics la kan, sebab takot bila diorang sedar my movement, karang mereka stop pula. Tengok tengok, diorang tak kesah pon! Banyak pulak tu gambar yang saya dapat! Diorang macam wat dek je. Anyway, the whole thing lasted for one hour, well they are still doing the same thing while I'm writing this so I guess it will go on for one whole night. Anyway, yang kelakar nya, Ginger si isteri boleh pulak singgah minum air. Padahal Glittle tengah berpaut dekat belakang dia! Lepas minum, masuk their little tent. Lepas tu keluar masuk tent sesuka hati je. Anak mereka kat cage sebelah tengok je. hehehe So here are some of the pics. Just wanted to share with all of you. Mana tahu nanti you catch your suggie doing the same thing, boleh lah expect cucu! Boleh lah standby nama! Glittle and Ginger, I am truly sorry if i embarrass you. I love you!

Ginger's 'Dalam Pantang' period!

Hellow Fellow Suggie Lovers!

So as i posted in my previous entry, I got two wonderful new born babies, fresh from Ginger's pouch! I named them Garlic and Glukos. Comel tak? comel taaaakkk? Anyway, disebabkan Garlic and Glukos masih kecil sangat, and Ginger pon sedang dalam pantang, I made sure I took care of all them very carefully. Glittle pon sama, si Ayah yang sangat gigih menjaga anaknye.

What I did for the tiny family's 'Dalam Pantang' period :

1) Put a cloth on the floor of the cage. It's just the same with what I did during Ginger's in pouch period. I did this because I'm afraid that the babies might slip through the jaring jaring of the cage. Kesian pulak nanti kalau tersepit.

2) Don't hang the pouch. Instead, I had a box (nice box, bukan kotak biasa) and In the box, I put a deep basket, and in the basket, I put the pouch. I did that because takot kalau I gantung sleeping pouch dia, and tiba tiba Ginger nak keluar, takot anak dia keluar sekali and terjatuh. So now, dengan cara saya ini, kalau Ginger keluar, atleast anaknya selamat sebab still dalam kawasan box tu. Sebab Garlic pernah keluar. Nanti saya cerita.

3) Put all Ginger's food is in the box. I only put fruits and veggies yang memang sure takkan ada semut datang in the box. Just incase Ginger lapar, Dia tak payah pergi tinggalkan anak dia jauh jauh. And, dalam kawasan anak dia, memang SURE takkan ada semut. Yela, anak dia kan tak ada bulu lagi, so takot semut kerumun :( Tapi kat luar box pon ada makanan juga untuk Glittle, si ayah.

4) I don't seperate Glittle at all. Glittle comes very handy whenever Ginger wants to go out and play. Time tu lah Glittle jaga anak malam malam, keep them warm. Dia juga selalu jilat anak nya. Memang baik. Pelik juga bila malam malam tengok Ginger sorang yang keluar main. Rupanya die sibuk jaga anak nya. Mereka pandai tukar tukar shift jaga anak.

I usually tegakkan the basket, tapi dalam gambar ini, nak tunjuk contoh kalau Ginger nak makan, I'll do this for her. Sebab kadang2 anak die menyusu while dia makan.

That is all I can remember for now. Kesimpulannya, it isn't hard to jaga them at all during this period. It's in their nature so they know what to do. Cuma saya nak pastikan yang terbaik lagi untuk my babies ni. Ala, effort sikit je kan, but it really means a lot! So good luck trying :D

Two new born sugar gliders coming right up!

Alhamdulillah! Happy tears, Happy tears :D

After waiting and peeking and waiting and peeking Ginger's tummy for two whole months, FINALLY keluar juga those tiny little cute creatures. 

Approaching the second month of the in-pouch period, I only saw little organs peeking out from Ginger. First I saw a glimpse of a hand, haaaa, jangan main main, tangan tu siap ada kuku lagi tu! Those tiny fingers made me cry happy tears. Then I started seeing a BLACK thing coming out of her tummy, it was like a string! It was a tail!!! Well, sometimes two. Then once in a while I would see like a leg coming out. Takot juga kan mula mula, yela, tak tahu sehat ke tak. Kaki dia tu macam tinyy tiny chicken wing! Everything was pink. There were no fur at all. 

Untill one fine day, One came out! I am not really sure which one, but it was soooo cute! Saya cuma usap sikit sahaja. Ginger tak marah pon. Some mothers marah tau kalau orang pegang anak die. Anak dia was so tiny, fragile, comel, ada campur geli geli sikit. ehehe. Mata pon tak boleh buka lagi. Then selang dua hari, the other one that had been inside the whole time, came out! ALHAMDULILLAH! 

I knew I was gonna get two joeys or now i call them "cucus" sebab dah jadi cucu la kira kan. So I prepared Four names, Garlic, Glukos, Gremlin and Grumpy. Pilih punya pilih, I chose Garlic and Glukos! Garlic is female and Glukos is male. 

WAIT! Don't get me wrong, these tiny babies still live in Ginger's pouch for about a month and a half. They start by just playing outside for a while, then go back in to sleep and drink milk. Then lama kelamaan, they just go in and out whenever they want. Even though mereka lepak luar dari pouch Ginger, they will still go in for milk. Sampai kepala dah betol betol tak muat, mulut je muat. Lepas lepas tu baaaru kire fully boleh hidup tanpa susu Ginger.

I just want to say that I am EXTREMELY happy to have another two suggies in my tiny family. They just light up my day! And, tak dilupakan, Ginger, Thanks for being so strong dalam menghadapi the maternity period. She was still active even though the babies looked very heavy for her. Ginger is a strong Woman Glider! And Glittle, Thanks for being a good husband to Ginger, you always groom her whenever you feel like it. I love all of you! And I know you love me too:)

When Ginger gets pregnant!

From what i know, sugar gliders get pregnant for only approximately 16 days. After that, the tiny baby who we call 'joey', crawls to the mother's pouch. I dunno whether they crawl ke ape. Not sure. Anyway, after that the joey will grow in the mother's pouch while drinking the milk. Lebih kurang macam tu la. They will stay in the pouch for 2 months. 

After Glittle bonded with Ginger, became husband and wife, I never expected Ginger to get pregnant. I mean, teringin tu mesti la tapi takdela tertunggu-tunggu. Until, the 1st of February 2011...

I saw a big lump on Ginger's tummy. I was SOOO EXCITED so I asked some experienced preggie sugar glider owners. And yep! They said Ginger was pregnant! Or in sugar glider terms, we call them "in-pouch" because she is not actually pregnant anymore coz the joeys are already in her pouch. So, after really checking her pouch, I found lumps on both sides of her tummy, right and left. Alhamdulillah, there are two joeys inside there!

During Ginger's in-pouch period, for the whole two months, I took care of her really carefully. What I did was:

1) No nail-clipping. Saya memang tak berani nak hantar Ginger pergi potong kuku because I am afraid that while we clip her nails, mana lah tahu ter-squeeze her joeys dalam perut ke kan. 

2) Take her wheel out from her cage. I didn't want Ginger to move much during this period sebab takut je apa apa jadi dengan joey die. Maybe I am being too paranoid, but hey, better ambil langkah selamat kan?

3) For the second month of her in-pouch, I started to put some cloth on the floor of the cage. Just incase the joey nak lahir dah ke. I mean, dia dah lahir, so tunggu die nak keluar dari perut. Takot kalau joey jatuh dekat celah jaringg di bawah cage ke kan. But kene selalu tukar cloth sebab cepat kotor.

4) Feed her double HPW. Ginger needs all the energy and the khasiat from the HPW for feeding the joeys. While the joeys are in her pouch, they mouth are attached to Ginger's milk so they just drink and drink and drink it.

5) Put extra fruits. I put extra fruits during this period to make sure that whenever Ginger gets hungry, there will always be food there. Tak nak lah bagi ibu mengandung lapar kan.

6) Let the husband be with the wife. Some people say that we should separate both of them during this period, but I don't think so. Glittle helped to groom Ginger. He didn't give Ginger trouble at all

So that's all yang saya lakukan in order for Ginger to have a good pregnancy. 

Alhamdulillah after exactly two months, the joeys are born!

When Glittle laid eyes on Ginger

The title sounds romantic kan? Not so fast! When I first brought Ginger home, I was so excited to introduce them to each other! Yela, Glittle kan duduk tidur sorang2 je, takde kawan. So Glittle memang dari kecik dah biase duduk sorang or just spend time with me. Ginger pulak, when I adopted her, she was in a cage with 20 other sugar gliders. So I guess dia memang dah biase. 

So I just wanted to try lah mula mula to put them in the same cage, then you wanna know what happened? Glittle straight away kejar Ginger like he wanted to eat Ginger! He was trying to tell Ginger that it is his territory. Ginger pon crabbing. Kesian Ginger. Oh well, so i immediately put Ginger in her own temperory cage. At that moment, I thought they would NEVER ngam ngan each other :(

What I did to get them to be cool with each other is :

1) Put their cages beside each other. Really close but not too close. Close enough to smell and see each other.

2) Exchange their sleeping pouches. Like dua hari Ginger tidur kat pouch tu, then I will give it to Glittle pulak guna, and vice versa. Biar diorang biasa dengan bau.

3) Exchange their everything! bekas makanan, tempat minum and toys.

4) When I put Ginger in her bonding pouch, I would let Glittle walk around that pouch and smell Ginger. They can't bite each other because sorang kat dalam and sorang kat luar. Vice versa.

So I would do those steps repeatedly untill mereka boleh ngam dengan each other. Like once in 3 days I would try to let them meet like really meet on my hands, IF masih bergaduh, I would seperate them again and do those steps all over again. Memang susah and penat, but that's just what we have to do. For me, it took around 1 week and a half sahaja, which is a really quick process for me. Some people take more than a month to bond two sugar gliders. So i am really thakful :)

So at last, they met on my bare hands, I started with sorang dalam pouch and sorang kat luar, then keluarkan both, I had to ask my partner to help me, and then, VOILA! they sniffed at each other, bau bau dulu, kemudian cium cium, kemudian peluk peluk and at last groom each other! Since then, I never separated them anymore. Kerja pon selesai, mereka pon dah bercinta. Alhamdulillah!
